Raised in the Philadelphia suburbs, Linn has a BA from American University’s School of Communication in Film & Media Arts and an MFA in Photography from Pratt Institute. She enjoyed working as a still life photographer in Seattle and the San Francisco Bay Area before getting her MFA. She met Salma at Pratt and became friends after many classroom thesis debates and late-night darkroom chats. After grad school, Linn worked as an in-house retoucher at a variety of brands, while having after-work meetings at the Whole Foods café with Salma as they plotted to build their own retouching empire.
After decades of city living, Linn moved with her husband and daughter to New Jersey, where she is trying out gardening and learning tennis.
FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY: Linn was working as a still life photographer in Seattle in the mid-90’s. There, she used one of the first commercial digital camera backs, made by Leaf, nicknamed “The Brick.” This noisy monster could produce a whopping four megapixel image, but could only be used for still life images, as the slightest movement would cause the image to misalign.
GUILTY PLEASURES WHILE RETOUCHING: Binge-listening to chatty celebrity podcasts, or listening to KEXP radio.
